How Medical Marijuana Can Help You Sleep

Medical marijuana is coming to Georgia soon, and if you think medical marijuana may benefit you, there is a big chance that you will qualify!

Cannabis is a safe, natural alternative medicine that has been used for centuries to help with many medical conditions and symptoms. The social stigma around cannabis and those who use it is quickly fading away as states introduce legislation for the legalization of the drug.

One thing cannabis is known for is its ability to help people sleep and get better quality zzz’s. It has been used for patients with sleep disorders, including insomnia, for many years now and rightly so.

Cannabis and Sleep

There are many different strains of cannabis; some can be more energizing whereas some are more relaxing. THC is one of the most powerful cannabinoids in marijuana, and it is the cannabinoid that has proved to be the most effective for those with sleeping problems.

Keeping this in mind, if you have sleeping issues, you should choose a strain with more THC than CBD. According to research, ingesting higher levels of THC usually reduces the amount of time spent in the REM stage of sleep.

Basically, the less time you spend in REM, the more time you will spend in a deep sleep. This is also why higher THC levels can be good for those with PTSD or night terrors, as they will spend less time dreaming in the REM stage.

If you have sleeping problems, we recommend trying an indica dominant strain. Indica strains tend to relax and calm the mind and body, whereas sativa strains can be energizing and encourage creative energy and thoughts.

Although sleep disorders may not qualify on their own, it is likely that those with qualifying conditions may also have sleeping issues.

In other words, if you have a qualifying condition and sleeping issues, you can get your medical marijuana card and kill two birds with one stone– so to speak.
