Did Georgia Increase the THC Limit for Medical Marijuana?
Yes. One of the most significant changes to Georgia's medical marijuana program in 2026 was the removal of the state's longstanding 5% THC limit. Previously, Georgia law defined legal medical marijuana primarily around "low THC oil," which could contain no more than 5% THC by weight.
The Putting Georgia's Patients First Act, also known as SB 220, changed that framework. Beginning July 1, 2026, Georgia no longer limits medical marijuana products to a maximum THC percentage of 5%. Instead, the state now regulates medical marijuana primarily based on the total number of milligrams of THC in a product.
For patients who previously found Georgia's limited THC options insufficient for their needs, this represents a major expansion of the state's medical marijuana program.
How Much THC Can Medical Marijuana Have in Georgia?
Georgia's new medical marijuana law uses milligram limits rather than the previous 5% THC cap.

Can You Buy Medical Marijuana Flower in Georgia?
